First Federal Honors Gary Wollenzien After 50 Years in Banking

WAUKESHA, Wis.,—First Federal Bank has honored Gary Wollenzien following his retirement after a 50-year career in banking.

Wollenzien, internal audit and compliance officer, was presented with a certificate from the Wisconsin Bankers Association recognizing his five decades of dedication and contributions to the banking industry.

“I’ve enjoyed working with friendly people that want to help our customers,” Wollenzien said. “None of us knows everything. We can reach great success by valuing the views and ideas of all our co-workers. That is the brain power of success.”

According to Executive Chairman Edward Schaefer, Wollenzien’s greatest contribution was building and leading a strong audit and compliance culture that earned high praise from regulators. His professionalism, knowledge and willingness to help others made him a trusted resource and respected leader across the organization.

“What we’ll miss most is Gary’s professionalism and his willingness to always help, whether it was work related or community related,” Schaefer said. “We wish him continued happiness, good health, and plenty of time with his family, friends, and the community organizations he loves.”

Throughout his time at First Federal, Wollenzien supported community organizations including local food pantries, La Casa, the Schoenstatt Sisters of St. Mary and Monday Night Movies in Cutler Park.

To recognize both his retirement and volunteer service, First Federal made a donation to the Waukesha Food Pantry in Wollenzien’s name.

Wollenzien’s legacy extends beyond compliance and auditing through the people he supported, the culture he helped build and the communities he served.
