ELK RIVER, Minn.,—The Bank of Elk River longtime board director Stewart Wilson has been honored with the Legacy of Community Banking Award by BankIn Minnesota, recognizing over 50 years of dedicated service to community banking and civic leadership.
Wilson began his career at The Bank of Elk River in 1975 as a summer employee. He quickly rose through the ranks from teller to security officer, then lender to branch manager, and eventually to board director. His journey reflects a lifetime of commitment to both the bank and the Elk River community.
“Stewart’s legacy is one of integrity, leadership, and unwavering dedication,” said John Babcock, Chairman/CEO/President at The Bank of Elk River. “His impact on our institution and community is immeasurable.”
Throughout his tenure, Wilson played a pivotal role in the bank’s growth, helping navigate economic challenges, expand services, and mentor future leaders. His influence extended far beyond the bank’s walls, with decades of service spanning the Elk River Planning Commission, Elk River’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority, City Council, and numerous nonprofit boards, including Guardian Angels of Elk River and the Mercy Unity Foundation.
“I would like to think my employment as a community banker and active participant in community activities had a positive economic and social influence on the development of the local area served by the bank,” said Wilson.
BankIn Minnesota’s Legacy of Community Banking Award celebrates individuals who have devoted 50+ years to strengthening local banks and the communities they serve. Wilson joins a distinguished class of 2025 honorees whose careers exemplify the values of community banking.
