Annie Simon-Apple Award

BAY PORT, Mich.,—Annie Simon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 18th, 2025.

Annie represented the best of banking; she served as the Marketing Director and Customer Service Representative of Bay Port State Bank from 2002 until her passing. She was dedicated to providing the best community banking experience for all her customers. She had a bubbly personality and contagious laugh that could put a smile on anyone’s face.

She looked for innovative and unique ways to grow Bay Port State Bank and improve their products and services. Annie spearheaded many initiatives to improving the financial literacy in her rural community. She taught everyone from elementary students to adults to the elderly. Her topics ranged from the importance of saving money to building a budget to fraud and financial abuse.

Annie Simon-Historical Society

Annie was recognized as a 12 time “Apple Award” recipient by the Michigan Banker’s Association for her financial literacy teachings She was also a member of the MBA’s marketing committee and helped to put on the annual BEST conference. Her exuberance made her a joy to work with and is missed by both colleagues and customers alike.

She was a pillar of both Bay Port State Bank and her local community. Outside of her career, she served the community as a member of the Bad Axe Rotary, Bad Axe Chamber, and Bad Axe Historical Society. She was an avid volunteer and especially enjoyed her time working events for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the Huron County Community Fair, and the Thumb Octagon Barn.

Prior to her work with the bank, she worked for General Motors, Macomb Daily Newspaper, and owned and operated a motel and cider mill. She enjoyed horses, bicycling, and traveling, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She loved adventures with her husband and children and watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. She lived a truly “rich” life having a job she loved and friends and family to spend time with. She worked to make the community and world around her a better place, and that legacy is one everyone should try to live up to.
