Matt Hoeksema to succeed Koning
HUDSONVILLE, Mich., — West Michigan Community Bank President and CEO Phil Koning will retire April 30, 2025. Phil has 50 years in the banking/finance industry, thirteen of those years as President and CEO of West Michigan Community Bank. When Phil started with WMCB in 2011 there were four locations in Hudsonville, Holland, and Jenison. WMCB’s assets were about $122 million with thirty-three employees. On June 30, 2024, WMCB reached a milestone of $1 billion in assets. The bank currently has seven locations in Kent and Ottawa Counties and employs over one hundred people.
Phil commented, “With reaching the $1 billion milestone, the bank is in a good place for me to transition into retirement”. Matt Hoeksema will join the bank on September 30, 2024, as its new President/CEO. “We are confident in Matt’s ability to lead the organization and continue the record of achievements.” Matt is currently the Chief Operating Officer of New Holland Brewing and has over 20 years of experience at Macatawa Bank as SVP-Chief Commercial Banking Officer. Matt currently serves on West Michigan Community Bank’s Board of Directors uniquely qualifying him as WMCB’s next President and CEO.
