Independent Bank Participates in JA BizTown Ribbon Cutting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Independent Bank recently participated in the Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes’ ribbon cutting event at the new Tom Fox Family JA BizTown® facility.

Independent Bank joined Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes (JAMGL), the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, and several other participating businesses, including Bissell, Perrigo, and Chick-fil-A, at the ribbon cutting event. The facility will officially open for students in Spring 2023.

Independent Bank is one of several businesses participating in the simulated business community that allows fifth and sixth grade students the opportunity to interact in a real-world business setting. Students apply, interview, and work within this simulated town, giving them the opportunity to experience different career opportunities, including one at Independent Bank.

Students who select a job at Independent Bank will choose between six available positions, including the CEO, CFO, Bank Manager, Client Sales Associate, and more. Students will process citizens’ checking deposits and cash withdrawals, assist customers in opening savings accounts, process business loan applications from other businesses within the community, and other financial duties.

“Independent Bank is excited to take part in this wonderful financial learning opportunity for students,” said Matt Greene, Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at Independent Bank. “BizTown is a unique experience for kids to really jump in and participate in a real-world business simulation at its best.”
